[Footnote 1: Alister McGrath, Iustitia Dei: A History of the Christian Doctrine of Justification. Review by John Warwick Montgomery Christian News, January 7, 2013. The historical doctrine of Justification from the Patristic period is well documented in Alister McGrath's 2 volume work Iustitia Dei and it shows that the Protestant doctrine was a true innovation and neither a recalling of St. Cambridge University Press, 1986. I own this marvelous book entitled What Luther Says (Concordia Press, 1959). It contains pages of quotes from Luther about election. On judgment day, we shall be commanded to pay attention to ourselves as books rumored eternal are read aloud not with tongues of angels but with tongues of fire until the uncreated Word is all in all. The Christian doctrine of justification continues to be of major importance in modern ecumenical discussions. I recently finished reading Alister McGrath's magisterial work on justification, Iustitia Dei. €Iustitia Dei: A History of the Christian Doctrine of Justification” by Alister E. In fact, this book became the leading reference work on the subject after its initial publication in 1986. His formal statements about the doctrine of justification were the product of both his reading of the Bible in the original languages and his aggressive pursuit of the iustitia Dei (the justice of God).
